Minutes: 1/16/07

Ann opened the meeting with an update of recent fund raising efforts. We continue to present our power point to various civic organizations and our efforts have proven to be successful. We have received a number of donations and are awaiting others. We still have a number of groups to speak to as well.

Discussed plans for future meetings. John Badenhausen from Westborough Youth and Family Services will be speaking at our next meeting on February 27 th at Westborough high school library. He will discuss the services that WYFS provides to teens. In March, a member of the DYS staff will speak to parents about the factors that may lead a teen to alcohol/drug abuse and early signs of trouble.

Michaela Duggan and other members of the Algonquin Honor Society presented their plans for a program to raise awareness of alcohol related deaths called “Every 15 minutes”. This will be a day long event at the high school, ending with a school wide assembly. Volunteers will be needed—more information will be coming soon.

Rachel Kottler,president or the Westborough High School SADD chapter spoke about ways she and fellow members are trying to educate parents around underage drinking.
